Generative drawing. A new sheet is made each day, and each day’s inputs occur once. The figure is the storm: its relief is the auroral oval as forecast by the Space Weather Prediction Center, a global one-degree grid of geomagnetic activity, read at the hour of making. Parallel lines are displaced by that field and cut wherever the relief stands in front of them. The ground is a gradient derived from a 256-bit number that the world’s computers spent ten minutes finding, and that no one will find again. Its first 19 digits are zeros; those zeros are the evidence that the work was done, they are identical in every such number, they carry no information, and they are therefore given no colour. The same number settles what the storm has no opinion about: the count of lines, their amplitude, the angle of the scan. The plotted version is black ink alone.
